RSPCA Leicester, Woodside

The Woodside Animal Centre takes in and cares for stray and unwanted pets. We also aid the recovery and return of injured wildlife to their natural habitat and care for animal victims of cruelty. Each year approximately 3500 animals are cared for at Woodside and we are completely self-funding - we receive no aid from the state, the National Lottery or RSPCA headquarters. Our weekly running costs are in excess of £14,000.

Woodside is licensed to accommodate up to 74 dogs at any one time and we are nearly always full. Our purpose-built cattery holds 72 cats, all of which are micro-chipped and neutered before they leave the Centre. We also have accommodation for birds, rabbits, rodents and ferrets.

Our facilities are not available for the boarding of pets. Your local council will have a list of boarding kennels and catteries.

The activities of the centre include
 *
Rehoming
 * Accommodating strays
 *
Dog training
 * Events and shows
 *
Micro-chipping

Each year around 74,000 animals are re-homed through the RSPCA's 177 branches, 3,500 directly through inspectors and 15,000 via headquarter’s establishments. In an effort to reduce the number of animals reproducing, popular pets, such as cats, dogs and rabbits, are neutered - Cats and dogs are also micro-chipped and vaccinated - before they are re-homed.
