Dog Fostering
Volunteers Required!
Why has Woodside decided to recruit volunteer dog fosterers?
After many years of dealing with stray and unwanted dogs, Woodside has seen a big change in the behaviour of dogs that arrive at the centre. We try to give the dogs in our care the best we possibly can, however, we are now seeing more dogs that have some emotional issues. Often these dogs find it difficult to cope in the kennel environment, as they may be:-
Too stressed to settle in a kennel environment.
Suffering with minor behaviour problems.
Recovering from a long term injury.
Are you the kind of person that can offer foster care?
If you can answer yes to the following questions, then you could be just the person we are looking for:-
Do you live in the Leicestershire area?
Are you prepared to have a home visit and to attend dog behaviour talk?
Do have experience of owning and caring for dogs? (This is essential).
With the foster dog having to return to Woodside for re-homing at some point, will you able to refrain from becoming too emotionally attached?
Have your own transport to travel to the centre and vets?
Are you available during the day?
Are you prepared to attend Woodside’s Training classes at the centre with your foster dog?
How long will you foster each dog for?
This is very much dependant on the dog situation, but it could be for up to 8 weeks.
Almost anyone can become a foster career.
However, if you have:-
Another pet
Or
Have a child or children under the age of 12 years,
It may restrict which dogs you are able to foster.
What do we offer in return for your commitment.
Food and all accessories (bed, bowls, collar, lead) etc
Petrol expenses paid
Support with any problems experienced.
Training of practical dog behaviour and management
A rewarding experience that will help make a difference to a dog’s life.
