Volunteering for Woodside

It takes over £14,000 a week to run Woodside Animal Centre and we simply couldn’t do it without our wonderful volunteers who dedicate their time to us.

Being a volunteer at Woodside is one of the most rewarding opportunities you can experience, but we do ask that you take some time to think about it before going ahead, as it is a huge commitment. We want you to be sure that you’re doing it for the right reasons as it obviously takes time to train you regardless of what you’re volunteering for.

For instance, dog walking may not sound like rocket science, but it’s a very important part of preparing  a dog for rehoming. You will be walking the dog and teaching it not to pull on the lead! You'll also be carrying on with aspects of the individiual training programme that our staff establish following a dog's arrival.

This may include teaching the dog to sit/wait or simply to improve their socialising skills, a vital part of their rehabilitation in preparion for rehoming.  Plus you’ll no doubt want to play with the dog, which all requires careful handling and an understanding of the animal. We will also show you how to put on various types of training aids.  Believe it or not some can be quite complicated (especially the harnesses), but don’t worry we will be with you every step of the way. Once you have mastered this and any other skills needed, there’ll be no stopping you!

There are many other areas where we need your help.  We have opportunities within administration, our reception team and working with our fundraiser to raise much needed funds for the centre.  All of the volunteering opportunities within our centre are as important as each other.  So we encourage volunteers to choose carefully,

Obviously if you can volunteer on a regular basis, even if it’s only for a couple of hours, this is really helpful to us, as we can manage our workload better. If we know who will be in, we can assign duties based on the volunteers we have coming in. Of course this is not always possible so if you can only volunteer on an “ad hoc” basis, this is fine too. There’s always plenty to do and we can make good use of your talents and skills, here at Woodside.

Seeking Sponsors

Each year Woodside cares for over 3500 stray, unwanted and sadly often neglected animals from the Leicestershire area. All of these animals are in need of a place of safety, food, warmth, veterinary treatment and ultimately a loving and permanent new home, all of these things Woodside aims to provide.

Current daily costs for the provision of these services and facilities are up to:

£14.00 per dog
£10.00 per cat
£6.00 for small mammals/birds

How you as a business can help

Woodside Animal Centre welcomes sponsorship from appropriate businesses and organisations. Pages or groups of pages cost from as little as £250.00 for a full year's sponsorship.

Your company logo will be displayed on the top of a banner on your chosen page. Please refer to our re-homing page for an example.
