Leaving a gift in your Will

THANK YOU

If you are considering a gift in your Will to RSPCA Leicestershire, Peterborough & Rutland Woodside Animal Centre. Your gift, regardless of size, will live on to benefit the animals we all love. Our future needs Pet Visionaries like you.

The RSPCA Leicestershire Branch has been in our community for over 135 years and the demand for our charity to care for and support neglected and abandoned animals only continues to rise.

We are a local charity caring for local animals, these animals could be in your street, your city, town or village or in a dangerously isolated and remote location nearby. We rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters in Leicestershire and Rutland to fund our work to help and protect these animals, so that we can all live in an area with animal welfare as its highest priority.

There is one way you can help Woodside far into the future. Much of our work relies on Pet Visionaries – kind souls who have left us a gift in their Will. We need more Pet Visionaries, like you, to consider leaving a gift in your Will to help us re-build the lives of animals in need and give them a future worth living.

Getting professional advice to ensure you have a good Will:

Dying without a valid Will is called INTESTATE and can create many problems for those left behind, at an already difficult time. The law takes over declares your estate as intestate and then decides how your assets will be distribute, regardless of your wishes, this means your property may not go to the people you wanted it to.

You should talk to your solicitor about making or updating your Will. Alternatively we can help.

It’s so easy

Your solicitor or Will professional adviser simply needs to know:

Our registered charity number: 222621

Our registered charity name: RSPCA Leicestershire, Peterborough & Rutland Branch (Woodside Animal Centre)

Our current address: 190 Scudamore Road, Leicester LE3 1QU

Making a Will might be easier, and cost less money than you think. The only decision you should make before contacting your solicitor is:
  • Would you prefer to give a percentage gift which is known as a “residuary gift” ( can be any percentage from 1% to 100%) or a specific sum of money known as a “pecuniary gift”?
  • Should you ask us to try and re-home your pet beyond your lifetime? There is a separate section on this website about this service

Gifts from Wills typically fund 4 out of 10 of the animals in our care or help to fund new projects like our new vet centre. Without such gifts, we would struggle to care for so many neglected and abandoned animals – a shocking thought.

How your Will helps our animals:

Meet Bully the Bulldog, who was found by RSPCA Inspectors at a puppy farm, with serious health problems. Aged 9 he had suffered a hard life, but thanks to the love and care of Woodside staff and over £4,000 spent on his treatment and recuperation, Bully was able to find a second chance and a loving forever home.

Mya, a small black kitten, was found alone with a badly damaged eye by a kind-hearted lady who called the RSPCA. Taken straight to the vet there was no option other than to remove the damaged eye. It isn’t clear if Mya’s injuries were caused by human neglect, an accident or an encounter with another animal but treatment to bring her back to health cost over £500. Thanks to Woodside Mya enjoys a safe and comfortable life in her new home.

Why Elizabeth has remembered Woodside Animal Centre in her Will

“I first became involved in 1988 and got to know the people here and saw their dedication. That is what really got me. The animals are in such good hands and everything possible is done for them. I know family and friends come first in a Will but if you love animals you can remember Woodside too, like I have”

Have you considered what might happen to your furry friends if you were to die?

It’s always a worry for people if they were to pass leaving their beloved pet to an uncertain future. We have a free scheme which ensures that your pets will be taken care of and found new loving homes in the event of your untimely passing.

You should ask your solicitor to mention your pets aftercare in your Will
